Recipe #4: Irish Soda Bread

Here I am sitting in a train traveling from Stratford-upon-Avon back to London, blogging about Irish soda bread. Strange how these moments happen in life. One day you’re home in your kitchen in South Dakota baking bread, then 4 days later you find yourself watching the Royal Shakespeare Company performing Shakespeare at the birthplace of the man himself. Our new favorite Shakespearian quote: “Have we no wine here?” from Coiolanus I.

Anyway, back to baking, I made my soda bread last Thursday and I was so happy with the results. It was fast, easy and perfect for a quick dinner whilst we finished packing. We ate it hot out of the oven, dipped in olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The next morning it was delicious for toast with butter and jam on the way to the airport.

  1. This bread is one of the few that’s suitable for quick, pre-travel baking. Your loaf looks like it turned out perfectly.
