Recipe #14: Mixed Berry Galette

Lisa of Tomato Thymes in the Kitchen and Andrea of The Kitchen Lioness were the hosts this week.  Check out the recipe and beautiful photos on their blogs, or find the recipe on page 371 and 377 in the Baking with Julia cookbook.

I’m posting late tonight because I baked the galette this afternoon, then went to ladies’ league night for golf, then beers afterwards, and now I’m finally home and got to try the galette.  I made it with blackberries, blueberries and sliced strawberries, and my husband said “This tart is tart!”… but in a good way he says.  It goes perfectly with ice cream and the crust is light and tasty.

This might be the easiest recipe so far for me.  The pie crust mixed up perfectly in the food processor, rolled out without any problem after chilling for 2 hours.  I piled up the fruit in the middle, drizzled with honey, and forgot to dab with butter (tastes great without it by the way).  I sprinkled the crust with a little turbinado sugar, baked at 400* for 35 minutes and it’s done.  Easy as pie.  This is the first time I ever agreed with that saying.

Tune in August 21st for Popovers. Wish me luck!

    • I baked the galettes before I went golfing, so all I had to do when I got home was eat it and post my blog entry, then take a bath, watch a few minutes of Olympics, and go to bed.
